Objects to be fond of.

The things we use every day are the easiest to overlook. A strap. A clip. The useful object waiting by the door. When one of them works exactly as it should and brings a bit of unexpected colour to the day, you notice.

For me it was a phone strap: a length of rope, braided and finished by hand, with a bead that catches the light. Phone secure, hands free. It made an ordinary thing feel considered.

That’s what I look for: useful objects with character, lifted by colour, texture and one detail someone clearly thought about.

Fond Objects is run by me, Emma. I’ve spent my working life helping good products find their people, and I’m better at finding things than making them. The makers I work with are the other way round. The pieces are made in China, and every order is packed and posted from London.

The collection will grow. The point of view stays the same.

You don’t strictly need any of it. You’ll just be glad, several times a day, that it’s yours. That’s what an object is for: to be useful, and to be loved a little.
